The Italian Greyhound
To ensure there was good variety, the Italian Greyhound came to mind early on when designing the BadCat Cocktail Menu. It is a vodka drink to accompany the summer sun, both in flavor and in visual appeal. The grapefruit gives a bright pink color that is blended with bitter orange and buffered by cooling vodka, making it neither cloyingly sweet nor briskly overwhelming. The notion of vodka and grapefruit juice can be found as far back as ‘The Savoy Cocktail Book’ of 1930, but the name, Greyhound, shows up later, perhaps partially due to its association with the lounges for the bus line of the same name. I chose to incorporate Aperol because it is the more approachable counterpart to Campari for classic cocktail fans seeking to expand their palette.
