Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned is thought to have been created in the 1880’s at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, KY. Though the original drink featured a muddled sugar cube and a lemon peel, other sweetening agents and citrus garnishes have found their way into this drink through the decades.
Aside from alcoholic punches, the Old Fashioned is the oldest cocktail recipe to have been written down. It’s template of spirit, bitters, citrus, and sugar formed the basis of cocktail preparation and creation that is still used into the present day. In our current cocktail renaissance, the popularity of this drink has only increased.
For BadCat’s version I selected Marker’s Mark because it provides a smooth and balanced bourbon base. It is further rounded out with the sweet orange of the compound syrup and Angostura bitters. Additional mellowing sweetness comes from the Maraschino syrup clinging to the garnish cherries. My method of infusing orange into the simple syrup ensures you get the ideal Old-Fashioned experience without needing to do any muddling or leaving any undissolved sugar grit. Premium Luxardo Marachino cherries are the defining garnish that originally adorned cocktails at the turn of the century, and honors the origin of the Old Fashioned, while also providing you with an exceptional cocktail experience.
